According to the experts’ analytics the Russian fruit market is estimated roughly more than $ 7 billion, and is characterized by stable growth of about 15% annual.

The overall fruit consumption in Russia has increased over the past few years, by about a quarter. This is thanks to a slight increase in the purchasing power of the population, as well as the trend for a healthy lifestyle, which is gaining more popularity among the population. At present, the Russians are spending on fresh products about 11% out of the all products purchased.
At the same time, in spite of the significant growth of about 43 kg per person annual, however, the consumption of fruits in Russia, it is 2 – 2,5 times lower than in developed countries.
Traditionally, fruit market Russia is formed of two parts. First - this is seasonal fruit, mainly local production. Such as: cherries, strawberries, raspberries and other berries. Also including: apples, plums, watermelons, melons, apricots and peaches.
Second - imported fruits, including exotic. Demand for which is always constant, in regardless of the period of year: bananas, tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi apples, pears, grapes, pineapples, lemons, etc.
The share of exotic fruits, according to some analytics, estimated 3% of the total value of fruit imports. The share of total imports of fruit, according to some experts, is between 50% and 80% of the total volume of the Russian market of fresh produce. For example, in 2012 the import of citrus, apples and bananas in Russia amounted to more than $ 4 billion USA. In general, the volume of imports of fresh produce can be more than $ 5 billion USA.
Due to this fact, producers and exporters of fruits consider the Russian market of fresh produce strategically important and promising.
The leading deliveries of fruit to Russia: Turkey, Ecuador, Morocco, Poland, China, Greece, Argentina, Egypt, South Africa. Naturally, volumes of supplies depend, on demand. Therefore, bananas, oranges and apples are at the first place in terms of deliveries in Russia. Tangerines, lemons, pears and grapes are little smaller in compare to largest supplier, however, their popularity is also high.
